Notes/Highlights
Final clause of the new covenant is “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

If people know that all their sins have already been forgiven, won’t they go ahead and sin?
ANSWER. No

Revelation of Forgiveness
Knowing that you are already forgiven destroys the power of sin in your life.
For those who are forgiven much, will love Him much.
Those who are forgiven little, will love Him little only Luke 7:47
The more you realize that you have been forgiven much, the more you will love the Lord Jesus Christ and sin no more.
Forgiveness does not lead to a lifestyle of sin. It leads to a life of glorifying the Lord Jesus
The only reason people don’t love Him much is that they do not understand just how much they have been forgiven

The Secret to Godliness
Wrong teaching:
1. believers have to exhibit more Christian character
2. believers should show more self control
3. believers should show more godliness and brotherly kindness

The problem with the rules and guidelines are:
How to do we develop it?
How would we help our congregation to exhibit more Christian character?
The whole doctrine becomes abiding the law [the old covenant] and not undeserved mercy.
Self effort is not doable, man’s effort will always fail.  That is our weakness.

The Secret to Godliness-It starts with your faith in Christ  2 Peter 1:5-9 . The rest will follow
to your faith add goodness
to your goodness add knowledge
to your knowledge add self-control
to your self-control add patience
to your patience add devotion to God
to your devotion add kindness toward your brothers and sisters in Christ
to this kindness add love

How are we forgiven of our sins?
Do we have to confess our sins?
We don’t have to confess our sins in order to be forgiven.
We confess our sins because we are already  forgiven.
Forgiveness is not dependent on what we do but with what Jesus has done for us. He died at the Cross for our sins.
Confession in the New Covenant is just being honest about our failures and our humanity.  It is the result of being forgiven and not something we do in order to be forgiven.
Father and child example of forgiveness.  No matter what the child do, the child has been forgiven already by the father. We don’t condemn our children when they make mistakes, we welcome them and we really enjoy when they confess their mistakes. How much more the Heavenly Father?
We are not to live from confession to confession to earn our forgiveness.  We live from faith to faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work.
It is really impossible to stay on top of confession every minute of our life.  There are always temptations around us and the moment our mind slips to sinning, we have to confess right away? We have to confess ALL THE TIME if this is the requirement for being forgiven.
We are forgiven the moment we believe in Christ and our sins are forgiven. 2 Peter 1:5-9

So how do we deal with sin or temptations?
Obedience to God.  Follow His footsteps and we will not be placed in a sinful situation. Walk in the Light
Discernment of evil.  We know when we are going to be tempted or when it is coming.
Be His disciple.  Follow Christ teachings and sin will not have a place in our heart.

The Waterfall of Forgiveness Analogy:
A  boy who found a precious stone near the river.  He could not bring it home – afraid that someone might steal it from him so he hide the stone in the ground by the river.  Each morning, he dug the stone from the ground and then wash it in the river to clean it. The muddy stone becomes shiny again and he had to do this everyday to enjoy the beautiful stone. Then, before he goes home, he buried the stone in the mud again and repeat the process the next morning  One day, he figured out a better hiding place – a small hidden space near a waterfall and he did not have to bury the stone and clean it every time he wants to play with it.  The unending waterfall does it for him.

God’s forgiveness is like a waterfall.  It never ends and there are no conditions.
Walking in the Light-Living in the Light [not according to the light] 1 John 1:5-7
Walking in the Light-we cannot walk in darkness because the Light is always there
In Him, there is no darkness

Understanding the Holy Communion
What is the “unworthy manner”?
Does not refer to a person but the manner a person partake?
When you fail to discern that the bread which you hold in your hands is the Body of Christ.
When you are eating the bread or drinking the wine for any other reason example: being hungry or just drinking for the sake of drinking the cup.

Holy Communion:
1. It is about discerning the Lord’s body and releasing faith to see the bread as His body, striped for your healing
2. It is about seeing the wine as the blood that was shed for forgiveness of all our sins

Consciousness of Jesus’ Blood Brings victory
We are constantly cleansed of all our sins when we believe in Him
Cease from depending on your own effort to maintain your forgiveness and begin to enjoy the extravagant waterfall of God’s forgiveness every moment of the day

Bible References:
I tell you that her many sins are forgiven. This is clear, because she showed great love. People who are forgiven only a little will love only a little.”
Luke 7:47

Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; 6to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God; 7to your devotion add kindness toward your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to this kindness add love. 8If all these things are in you and growing, you will never fail to be useful to God. You will produce the kind of fruit that should come from your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But those who don’t grow in these blessings are blind. They cannot see clearly what they have. They have forgotten that they were cleansed from their past sins.
2 Peter 1:5-9

So what should we do? Should we sin because we are under grace and not under law? Certainly not! 16Surely you know that you become the slaves of whatever you give yourselves to. Anything or anyone you follow will be your master. You can follow sin, or you can obey God. Following sin brings spiritual death, but obeying God makes you right with him. 17In the past you were slaves to sin—sin controlled you. But thank God, you fully obeyed what you were taught. 18You were made free from sin, and now you are slaves to what is right. 19I use this example from everyday life because you need help in understanding spiritual truths. In the past you offered the parts of your body to be slaves to your immoral and sinful thoughts. The result was that you lived only for sin. In the same way, you must now offer yourselves to be slaves to what is right. Then you will live only for God.

20In the past you were slaves to sin, and you did not even think about doing right. 21You did evil things, and now you are ashamed of what you did. Did those things help you? No, they only brought death.22But now you are free from sin. You have become slaves of God, and the result is that you live only for God. This will bring you eternal life.23When people sin, they earn what sin pays—death. But God gives his people a free gift—eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:15-23

We heard the true teaching from God. Now we tell it to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness. 6So if we say that we share in life with God, but we continue living in darkness, we are liars, who don’t follow the truth. 7We should live in the light, where God is. If we live in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood sacrifice of Jesus, God’s Son, washes away every sin and makes us clean.
1 John 1:5-7

27So if you eat the bread or drink the cup of the Lord in a way that does not fit its meaning, you are sinning against the body and the blood of the Lord. 28Before you eat the bread and drink the cup, you should examine your own attitude. 29If you eat and drink without paying attention to those who are the Lord’s body, your eating and drinking will cause you to be judged guilty. 30That is why many in your group are sick and weak, and many have died. 31But if we judged ourselves in the right way, then God would not judge us. 32But when the Lord judges us, he punishes us to show us the right way. He does this so that we will not be condemned with the world.
1 Corinthians 11:27-32

DREAM: Our neighbor’s house was remodeled.  The workers stripped everything in the house and the only remaining items were the frame of the house.  The house framing was extended to double the area of the house.  The look of the house was totally different and I cannot even notice the resemblance of the old house.  The driveway was empty and there were no homeowners around.  When I walked towards the backyard of my house, I noticed that the neighbor’s wood patio extended way beyond to my side of the fence line.  The wood patio was sitting right close to my own backyard patio.  There was a woman who was at the backyard watching the workers and I was going to ask her about the patio but I did not; I just left the patio like it is.  I was not sure if she was the owner or not.

I agreed of what you have written here but we have something to discuss later.

      The Christian and Sin
What is the nature of sin?
Sin is primarily a refusal to love God, a refusal to be loved by Him, to guided by Him. In sinning, man seeks for a false fulfillment, and threfore actually becomes impoverished. Sin, is an act of disruptive of one’s relationship with God. But sin has other dimension also. it is a refusal to love other men as we should. For the Christian, sin is an offense againts the covenant life of the People of god. Sin is so hard to understand because it is an absurdity. But if we are to grow properly in the Christian life, we must have some basic realization of what sin is, and of God’s attitude towards sin and the sinner. Our best source for such a mature realization is given to us in the crucified Christ. In this figure we can know all the Father wqants us to comprehend concerning sin.
First of all, Christ crucified tells us very stakly of the overwhelming heinousness of sin. We know that sin is overwhelmingly evil because it alone could nail Incarnate Goodness to the cross.
Secondly, Christ crucified speaks to us concerning the justice of God. nGod’s justice does ask satisfaction which is the death of His Son. Thirdly, very important for us poor sinners, the crucifiedChrist speaks to us unmistakably and overwhelmingly of the Father’s great love and mercy towards us. Because of this love and mercy we can be so positive about human existence, for great as is the power of sin, the love and mercy of the Father, incarnated in His Son, is infinitely greater. This is our peace and consolation.
